Salem's Childe Working on New Music for Next Release

No stranger to the national stage, Indiana metal band Salem’s Childe are long-time veterans of the metal scene, with the band’s members having performed in various music projects from basements to stadiums around the US over the course the last two decades. Most recently, that experience includes their spring 2022 US tour in direct support of Misfits legendary guitar player, Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein and his band Doyle. After storming their way twice across the country, winning over fans with their unique but familiar sound, and earning the respect of their touring partners, the band went back to work on new music in anticipation of releasing a new album.

With influences that include Machine Head, Tool, Savatage, Lamb of God, and more, Salem’s Childe offers a hard-hitting and violently energetic mix of melody and aggression. And while those influences are resonant in the band’s sound, Salem’s Childe has been described as having a genre-defying sound that stands on its own while being able to keep the company of bands like As I Lay Dying, In Flames, Godsmack, and others. The music of Salem’s Childe has been described as a storm of thrash, groove, prog, and modern hard rock that finds itself as equally at home in the mainstream as it does the underground.

Under the guidance of Tim King (Soil; VP A&R at Pavement Entertainment) the band released their debut album, "The Sin That Saves You," under an artist partnership deal through the storied Pavement Entertainment in October 2020 and followed that up the next spring with a cover of Sponge's iconic radio anthem "Plowed."

The band’s new music represents a growth from where they left off with “The Sin That Saves You,” demonstrating a dedication towards continual improvement in both songwriting and performance. The new songs maintain the band’s aggressive accessibility while pushing boundaries and inviting engagement. With 5 songs ready for release, the band continues to write and record, with the expectation that what could be released as an EP will become their second full-length album.

2022 Spring Tour Supporting DOYLE

2022 is getting started with a bang for Salem’s Childe, with the band launching themselves onto the national live stage as direct support for Doyle on the U.S. leg of their “Abominate the World As We Die” world tour.

“We were only able to play out a few small shows during the last couple years,” says vocalist Johnny Oravsky. “I’m stoked to be able to get out in front of people and play our music! It’s gonna be great time!”

Salem’s Childe released their debut album, “The Sin That Saves You,” through Pavement Entertainment in October 2020, and followed that up the next spring with a cover of Sponge’s “Plowed.” Since then, the band has been rehearsing and getting ready to take their music live.

“This is really our first opportunity to get out and support our record the way we’ve wanted to,” adds guitarist Rob Salem. “We’re really hopeful that we’re going to find new fans and new friends while we’re out on the road, and that the record will get the chance it deserves to get some traction with folks who might have missed it because we couldn’t tour to support it. Tim King and the team at Pavement Entertainment did a lot to give us a chance at success with this, and now it’s our turn to repay their faith in our music by bringing it to the live stage. We’re especially grateful to Tim for helping make this opportunity happen for us, and of course, we’re humbled to be able to tour with a legend like Doyle. We’re really appreciative of them taking us out on this run.”

Salem’s Childe will be touring the U.S. with Doyle from March 4-April 10.

Salem's Childe Releases Cover of "Plowed" by Sponge

Hot on the heels of the release of 2020’s “The Sin That Saves You” via Pavement Entertainment, Salem’s Childe is roaring into 2021 with the force of a major storm. Releasing an album during a pandemic meant that touring and playing shows to support it couldn’t happen, but the band found other ways to keep working and moving forward, from shooting and releasing multiple music videos and short “making of the record” videos to starting the writing and demoing process on new music for their next release. They also took the opportunity to hit the studio and record their take on a 90’s classic, Sponge’s “Plowed”.

“We’ve been playing ‘Plowed’ in our set for a while now,” says guitarist Rob Salem. “It’s one of those iconic songs that everyone knows and is fun to play. We thought it’d be fun to take it in the studio and give it our own spin. It can be tough to do a cover justice—everything that makes the song great is in the original, and it was important to us not to take away from or lose the integrity of the original tune while finding a way to still make it ours. So we beefed it up a little and made small changes that we hope carry the spirit of the original while giving it a fresh take. It’s really an homage to a time and sound that is part of our musical roots. And of course, it’s topically relevant, which speaks to the timelessness of the song itself.”

Looking ahead, the band is keeping an eye on the horizon and what 2021 has to offer.

“Ideally, we’d like to get out and tour and do some festival shows,” says bassist James Gates. “We couldn’t get out and play behind the album when it released due to the pandemic, and while we got some much-appreciated radio play across the country, we’re one of those bands that we think really finds our audience when we’re on stage. As things start opening up, we’re watching for show and tour opportunities that are right for us, and hopeful that we can get out in front of audiences this fall. In the meantime, we’ve started putting together ideas and early demos of new material, so if we can’t get out and play, we may find ourselves back at Bang Recording with producer John Hehman once the new tunes are ready.”
